Ten Tips for Hot Summer

  1. Always apply suncream
It is important to use a sunscreen lotion of at least SPF 30 in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. For sensitive skin, a mineral-based sunscreen is best. Don’t sit in the sun in peak hours between 10 am and 4 pm in order to minimize UV radiation. If you are planning to be out in the sun for a long period of time, reapply suncream every two to three hours.

  2. Drink plenty of water During the hot summer months, heat and sweat can leave your body dehydrated. A lack of water is harmful to your body and can also make you crave food when you’re not actually hungry. It is incredibly important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least eight to nine glasses of water a day. Bored of water? Add some low calorific flavoring to water such as a piece of fruit, or opt for healthy alternatives like green tea or coconut water.

  3. Beware of ‘healthy’ smoothies
Fruit smoothies are a great way to get your five-a-day and keep refreshed throughout the summer, but watch out for smoothies made with frozen yoghurts or ice cream as they can be extremely calorific.

A healthy smoothie should be made with fruit, juice, low fat-yoghurt and ice. Use any fruit you might have or have kept in the freezer, and throw it all in a blender to make a perfect summer drink.

  4. Exfoliate
Summer means an increase of dead skin cells so it is important to exfoliate your skin to keep it smooth and silky. You don’t need to buy any expensive products to achieve that summer glow; simply use a loafer for a light scrub or make your own exfoliation lotion using a handful of oatmeal, milk and yoghurt.

  5. Keep up the exercise regime
Before you hide those running shoes in the wardrobe, remember summer exercise doesn’t have to stop because of the rising temperatures. Instead of working out outside, change your exercise plan and take it indoors. Join a gym, take up a step class, or get a group of friends around for an afternoon of exercise DVDs.
  1. Get wet
Summer is the perfect time of year to get wet! Boring runs in the cold wintery weather can be swapped for a summer swim at your local pool or gym. Start by swimming for 10 minutes and increase the time over the following weeks by doing front crawl, breaststroke or backstroke to mix up your cardio workout. A 30 minute session of this full body workout will burn almost 400 calories! If swimming laps isn’t your thing, join a water aerobics class or create your own aerobic workout with jumping jacks, marching and jogging in water.

  2. Olive oil
Olive oil is a healthy fat which contains essential fatty acids that help skin resist UV damage. These fatty acids are also part of the cell membranes that keep in all that moisture your body loses through heat and sweat during the summer. In order to protect your skin and keep it supple, consume about 1 tablespoon of olive oil daily or add it to a healthy salad or fish dish in order to get all those essential fatty acids.

  3. Protect your glossy locks
Our hair suffers a lot during the summer. Constant heat, sun damage and chlorine takes a toll on our hair and can leave it feeling limp and dull after the holidays. If you’re planning on swimming a lot during the summer, it is advisable to use anti-chlorine shampoo and conditioner to help neutralize the chlorine from your hair. If possible, minimize the use of hairdryers, straighteners and other heating products. Towel dry your hair, apply a handful of mouse and revel in beachy summer waves.

  4. Eat healthy by the pool
When the sun is beating down, the idea of seeking out the nearest ice cream stand is seriously tempting. Stay strong by being prepared, and pack a cooler full of healthy snacks and juices. Fill your ice-box with ice, bottled water, sandwiches, vegetable sticks with hummus, yoghurts and endless amounts of fruit.

  5. Take up a new hobby
Summer is the perfect time to take up a new activity. Gardening is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and will actually help you burn some calories! Planting a herb garden is a fantastic way of getting your hands dirty, having quick access to some healthy flavours for your summer meals and, if you have kids, get them involved in playing outside.

If gardening isn’t your thing, get some inspiration from Wimbledon and try your hand at some tennis or golf. Pilates is the perfect alternative for some alone time in the garden. Roll out a towel and have some fun trying out planks and some breathing techniques in the sun.

Career in Robotics Engineering

An engineering discipline that is on the rise, robotics engineering is a breeding ground for creativity and innovation from people with a background in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering. Robotics engineers may work in the agricultural, military, medical, and manufacturing industries, among others, conceiving of new uses for robots, designing improved robots for existing systems, or repairing and maintaining industrial robots. Because robots are already widely used (on production lines, for example), hands-on technical jobs can easily be found in the robotics engineering field, but there are also plenty of opportunities to take on more inventive roles in experimental arenas.
Scope of Robotics Engineering
Robotics Engineers do not merely design robots but also conduct research, develop new applications and do maintenance work.
Robotics Engineering encompasses several sub-fields such as artificial intelligence, computer-aided manufacturing as well as computer integrated manufacturing system. Besides these, it also covers digital electronics, micro-processing, computational geometry, and robot motion planning. Basically, you are trained on developing the hardware, software, intelligence control as well as adaptive control of the machine.
Generally speaking, designing and controlling robots will need a mechanical engineering base while a base in electrical or electronics & communication engineering will be good for hardware designing work.
How can I become a Robotics Engineer?
To make a career in Robotics, you need to take up Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM) as your core subjects after Class X. After Class XII, get a B.Tech or a B.E. degree in any core engineering field related to it such as Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mechatronics might be the other specialisations you may go for – if available in your engineering college.
Where can I study Robotic Engineering?
Robotics and artificial intelligence is an interdisciplinary course offered at Masters level to engineers who come from mechanical, computer, electrical or instrumentation engineering streams.
Though there are few private colleges that do offer Robotics as specialisation at an undergraduate level, they are still to make their mark in the job market. If you are interested in a robotics career, here are some of the top educational institutions that offer Robotics courses at UG, PG and PhD level:
*Banaras Hindu University (BHU),
*BITS, Mesra,
*Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Jadavpur University,
*Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru,
*Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kanpur, and Kharagpur,
*Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad,
*Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU),
*Karnataka University,
*National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hyderabad
*University of Delhi,
*University of Madras, and
*University of Petroleum and Energy Studies.
Robotics Engineering is also a popular choice of specialization for students who go abroad to study.
Career in Robotics Engineering
According to Dr. Nalinaksh S. Vyas, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator at the Center for Mechatronics of IIT-Kanpur, “Robotics is an upcoming field with immense potential. It may not be a fruitful degree at an undergraduate level but many job opportunities open up for you if you take it up as a specialisation at the Masters level. Once you have a strong foundation in the classical fields of Engineering, you might take up Robotics or Mechatronics as a specialisation in the third or fourth year of their courses though.”
Robotics Engineers can work in diverse fields – from modern warfare to medicine to space exploration to nano-technology. Robots make sensible solutions to situations where conditions can be tedious, manipulative or hazardous for human beings such as sea-exploration, nuclear science, servicing of transmission of electric signals, mines, and designing bio-medical equipments. They can also speed up the manufacturing processes in most cases. Opportunities are endless – you just have to find your way!
A fresh Robotics Engineer generally enters the job market at the modest payout of Rs 5-6 lakh per annum but his or her income grows many times over with experience and qualifications. Multi-national companies in India and abroad hire robotics engineers at much bigger salaries along with all the benefits such as paid retirement plans, holidays and vacations, and health insurance.
Top of Form
It is a dynamic field to opt as a career involving the design, functional use, and maintenance of robots. These automated machines are used in numerous capacities, including manufacturing, transportation, surgery, weaponry, safety, research, and the mass production of consumer goods. Multiple career levels are available in robotics.
More Details about Prospects and Working
Two common professions in this field are technicians and engineers. The differences between the two begin primarily with education level of the students. Technicians typically hold 2-year associate degrees in robot technology or a similar field, while engineers need at least a bachelor's degree; aspiring engineers often move on to graduate studies and professional engineering certification. Technicians generally participate in apprenticeship programs that provide on-the-job training along with classroom instruction.
